UL

UL Verified Ventilation & Filtration, powered by SafeTraces

UL’s Verified Ventilation and Filtration program is the first marketing claim evaluation program for aerosol removal in the built environment, powered by SafeTraces.

This assessment and rating program combines a comprehensive desktop review with field verification of ventilation and filtration performance powered by veriDART®, SafeTraces’ patented aerosol tracing technology. veriDART measures the combined impact of outdoor air ventilation, filtration or air cleaning technologies on HVAC recirculated air, and air cleaning technologies within the space. The program consists of the following components:

  • Desktop review – Ventilation and filtration performance evaluated based on a building’s design, HVAC system specifications and other key building data.
  • Field evaluation – Ventilation and filtration performance evaluated in high-density areas with SafeTraces’ patented aerosol tracing technology.
  • Verified Mark – Building owner and operator is issued a UL Marketing Claim Verification Mark if a building achieves a target rate of aerosol removal based on official guidance and infectious disease science.

UL’s Verified Ventilation and Filtration program is an independent science-based marketing claim.

WELL

veriDART Approved for the WELL Health-Safety Rating

The International WELL Building Institute’s (IWBI) WELL Building Standard™ version 2 (WELL v2™) is a vehicle for buildings and organizations to deliver more thoughtful and intentional spaces that enhance human health and well-being. WELL v2 includes a set of strategies—backed by the latest scientific research—that aim to advance human health through design interventions and operational protocols and policies and foster a culture of health and wellness. Built upon the pioneering foundation of the first version of the WELL Building Standard (WELL v1), WELL v2 draws expertise from a diverse community of WELL users, practitioners, public health professionals and building scientists around the world.

In addition to WELL certifications, IWBI also implements the WELL Health-Safety Rating. Informed by the WELL Building Standard and more than 600 experts from the Task Force on COVID-19, the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management helps organizations and business facilities address the health, safety and well-being of their most valuable asset—people.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is focused on operational policies, maintenance protocols and emergency plans. It focuses on strategies that include keeping spaces clean and sanitized, providing essential health benefits and services, communicating your health and safety efforts, helping everyone prepare for an emergency, and assessing air and water quality.

veriDART® by SafeTraces tests and verifies effective ventilation and filtration performance for mitigating occupational exposures to airborne infectious aerosols in buildings. veriDART can be used as an Innovation point for WELL v2 certification.

veriDART has been approved by IWBI as an Alternative Adherence Path for the WELL Health-Safety Rating’s SA2 Assess and Maintain Air Treatment Systems (AAP-02575).

SA2: Assess and Maintain Air Treatment Systems:

1. System Inventory

Project provides an inventory of all filters and UVGI equipment currently used to treat the air in the following locations (if any):

a. Ducts and air handling units
b. Fan coil units
c. Standalone air cleaning devices

2. Air Treatment Assessment

The following requirements are met:

a. A qualified engineer provides the project with an assessment of at least one of the following for occupiable areas.

  1. The highest efficiency of media or other particle filters (particularly for recirculated air, if any) that can be installed with the current mechanical system.
  2. The capacity of the current mechanical system to utilize UVGI equipment.
  3. The quantity of standalone air purifiers required to serve the space.

LEED

veriDART approved for U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED v4.0/4.1 O+M rating system

The U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED rating system helps buildings to focus on efficiency and leadership to deliver the triple bottom line returns of people, planet and profit. Today’s version of LEED, LEED v4.1, raises the bar on building standards to address energy efficiency, water conservation, site selection, material selection, day lighting, indoor environmental quality and waste reduction. LEED is the world’s leading green building project and performance management system, delivering a comprehensive framework for green building design, construction, operations and performance.

veriDART tests and verifies effective ventilation and filtration performance for mitigating occupational exposures to airborne infectious aerosols in buildings as a solution for Indoor Environmental Quality in LEED v4.0/v4.1 projects.

SafeTraces’ veriDART has been approved for use as a Pilot Credit in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED v4.0/4.1 O+M rating system: “Testing and Verifying Performance of Ventilation and Filtration Controls for Reducing Occupational Exposures to Airborne Infectious Aerosols”.
